Omega Seamaster 200 “Pre-Bond” Automatic | Ref. 368.1062 | Caliber 1111 | SR49554027
Circa early 1990s
Before Pierce Brosnan famously wore the Seamaster Professional in GoldenEye, Omega laid the groundwork for its modern dive watch identity with what collectors now call the “Pre-Bond” Seamaster 200. This Ref. 368.1062, dating from the early 1990s, is one of the last iterations of this transitional model—a professional-grade diver that bridged the tool watch era of the 1970s with the design cues that would define Omega in the decades to come.
Encased in a solid 38mm stainless steel body, the watch wears slightly larger thanks to its integrated bracelet and tall rotating bezel. The design is unmistakably early '90s Omega: a mix of utilitarian styling, no-nonsense case finishing, and signature cues like the sword hands and sloped uni-directional bezel. The matte black dial is clean and legible, with luminous tritium plots and minimal text—a purposeful layout geared toward function over flair.
Inside beats the Caliber 1111, Omega’s chronometer-grade version of the ETA 2892-A2. With 21 jewels, a hacking seconds function, quick-set date, and smooth automatic winding, the 1111 offers modern reliability while still representing a pre-Co-Axial, mechanical Omega era. Serial number SR49554027 places this example firmly in the final years before the Seamaster 300 Diver’s release in 1993.
The case shows honest wear consistent with age but remains unpolished, with crisp transitions and defined chamfers. The bezel has aged gracefully with minor wear but no major chips or cracks. The crown is screw-down and signed, functioning securely. The original Omega stainless steel bracelet is integrated to the case, tapering comfortably and maintaining the watch’s streamlined profile.
While not widely known outside vintage Omega circles, the “Pre-Bond” Seamaster has earned cult status for its straightforward design, everyday wearability, and its place in the lineage of one of the most famous dive watch series of all time. Ref. 368.1062, especially in automatic form, remains a highly wearable tool watch with genuine historical relevance and steadily rising collector interest.
