Okay before you get into this one, make yourself a cup of coffee and take the time to really appreciate the beauty and the rarity of the watch that I am going to describe to you!

What we have here is a Seiko 62mas, on its own already quite a rare and collectible watch. A bit of the Japanese counterpart of the Rolex submariner but more towards a skin diver type a deal. The start of this stunning watch model goes back to the expeditions to the Antartics by Japan.

The designer behind this watch is the Japanese counterpart of Gerald Genta, Taro tanaka , the godfather of grand seiko.

ANYWAYS ABOUT THE WATCH NOW

The one we have here is a generation 1 62mas, aka the small crown. Just as with the rolex submariner seiko also made this mistake of using a crown that was too small for the watch. This 5.5mm crown is about 1mm smaller as the one that most know from the 62mas. This exact model was only made from April to June 1965 and can be spotted by the reference number 6217-8000. Once the switch was made in July 65 to the bigger crown the new reference 6217-8001 was also implemented.

I know this is all very nerdy collector stuff, but trust me, you want to know this. Remember within Rolex a detail like this makes up for 20k euro in price difference.

The beauty that we have here today is from May 1965 and is in unpolished condition with a strong solid original 5.5mm crown, a healthy movement and lovely lume. The crystal is probably original, that I did polish to get most scuffs out. But the crazy part is that we tested this watch on the waterproof test and she passed. 60 years old yet still ready to hit the water. please do not do it though.
