Omega Constellation Chronometer Ref. 168.0056 – Circa 1973 – Cal. 1011 – Serial 36138520

Offered here is an honest and increasingly uncommon example of the Omega Constellation Ref. 168.0056, serial 36138xxx, dating to circa 1973. This piece embodies the transitional design language of the early ‘70s — moving away from the classical lyre-lug cases of the 1960s into a more modern, angular aesthetic, while still retaining the mechanical soul and chronometer precision that made the Constellation line Omega’s flagship.

Housed in a sharp, faceted 35mm stainless steel case with crisp radial brushing, this reference features a minimalist silver dial with applied indices, slim baton hands, and date at 3 o’clock. The original Omega-signed crystal and crown are both present, as is the vintage applied “Ω Automatic Chronometer Officially Certified” dial text — no reprints, no refinishing.

Inside beats the Omega Caliber 1011, a slimline, high-beat (28,800 bph) in-house movement — chronometer rated and fully serviced. This was Omega’s last generation of mechanical chronometers before the quartz era took hold, and it represents the final flourish of technical excellence before the market shifted.

Condition is excellent overall. The case shows only minor signs of wear, dial and hands are untouched, and the movement is running smoothly post-service. Comes on a period-correct Omega bracelet or leather strap depending on buyer preference.

A true connoisseur’s piece — overlooked by many, but deeply appreciated by those who understand the technical and design transition Omega underwent in the 1970s. A great entry into vintage Omega, or an ideal addition for collectors looking to round out their Constellation lineage.
