Unlike the vast majority of Air-King 5500 examples, this dial carries only the two classic Rolex lines under the crown — “Rolex / Oyster Perpetual” — with no “Air-King” text and no “Precision” at 6 o’clock. These minimalist USA dials were delivered for the American market and are seldom encountered today.
The result is a strikingly clean and balanced aesthetic: the iconic Rolex coronet at 12, two simple lines beneath it, and a perfectly open lower half of the dial. It is the kind of configuration that only seasoned collectors recognize — and once seen, it becomes impossible to forget.
