There’s a unique richness to a gilt dial that sets it apart from later production. The gold-colored printing — the result of an early dial manufacturing process where text was left exposed in the metal beneath a lacquered surface — gives the dial a warmth and depth that no white print can match. On this example, that effect is enhanced by the domed acrylic crystal currently fitted. The Tropic shape amplifies the visual depth of the gilt dial and adds a vintage clarity that works beautifully with the overall design.

This is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date ref. 5700 from 1969 (serial 2000XXX), featuring a 34mm stainless steel Oyster case and automatic movement. The 5700 shares the same proportions as the Air-King of the period but includes the date complication, making it a practical, versatile daily wearer.

The case has been polished and shows clean with some wear marks on the side, what can be expected of a watch that has been properly used. The movement has just been fully serviced(July 2025) and comes with a 24-month mechanical warranty for added peace of mind.

The gilt dial remains in excellent condition with crisp printing, intact lume plots, and a subtle patina that stays true to the watch’s age. Combined with the domed crystal, it has the layered, glossy depth collectors look for in late-1960s Rolex.
