Technical background

The Rolex Air-King ref. 5500 was produced from the late 1950s through the late 1980s and represents one of the purest expressions of Rolex’s time-only Oyster watches. Most examples were powered by the reliable Rolex cal. 1520 automatic movement. With its 34mm Oyster case, acrylic crystal and simple dial layout, the 5500 became known as a durable everyday watch while maintaining the understated elegance typical of vintage Rolex.
