King Seiko 4402-8000 – 7D049XX (April 1967)

This is where things start to get serious. A clean, no-nonsense King Seiko that reflects the brand’s pursuit of precision and refinement during one of its most competitive eras.

The dial is everything you want—crisp silver with sharp applied indices, perfectly balanced text, and that unmistakable lightning bolt above 6 hinting at its high-grade pedigree. The dauphine hands and faceted markers catch the light beautifully, giving the watch a quiet but confident presence on the wrist.

The case is classic late-60s Seiko: strong lines, broad lugs, and a polished surface that emphasizes its architectural shape. It wears slightly larger than expected and has that solid, purposeful feel King Seiko is known for.

Finished with the correct Seiko caseback emblem, this is a pure example of what made King Seiko such a serious competitor in its time.

Technical background

The 44KS series is one of the most important lines in Seiko history. Introduced in the mid-1960s, it marked a major step forward in both movement quality and case design, directly competing with Grand Seiko in internal performance trials.

Powered by the hand-wound 4402 movement, this King Seiko features 25 jewels and a beat rate of 18,000 bph. The movement is known for its precision, robustness, and ease of regulation—qualities that made it a favorite among watchmakers.

The 44KS line also introduced design elements that would later evolve into the famous “Grammar of Design,” with sharper edges and more defined case geometry compared to earlier models.
