Ever wanted a Rolex Day-Date but bigger and in two-tone? Vintage Tudor has got you covered.

THE FULL STORY

Tudor is well known for offering similar designs to its older sibling, Rolex, but for more approachable prices. This Date+Day model is a perfect example, as it bears a similarity to the Rolex Day-Date, but there are a few distinctions between the two worth noting.

The case design is borrowed from the Day-Date with the three-body stainless steel and gold  Oyster case with a fluted bezel made by C.R. Spillman S.A (CRS), the same casemaker as Rolex at the time. CRS also famously made cases for the manual-wind Rolex Daytonas of the era.

While operating nearly entirely separate today, Tudor and Rolex were tied at the hip during the vintage era. Hans Wilsdorf founded Tudor as a brand his agents around the world could sell at a lower price point and "one that could attain the standards of dependability for which Rolex is famous." Tudor utilized Rolex technology, construction, and manufacturers to achieve this aim, and they were massively successful at doing so.

This Tudor is known as a "Jumbo" example, for its large size at 38mm compared to the standard Rolex Day-Date of the time that measured 36mm (Rolex has only offered larger Day-Dates in more recent years). Tudor's execution of this calendar model is offered in two-tone, stainless steel and yellow gold, as opposed to the solid precious metal examples found in Rolex's range. This allows the Tudor to have a sportier look, but one that is also suitable for more formal occasions. This example has a beautifully aged blue dial

Two-tone is back– it just works. Especially here on this Tudor Date+Day with the subtle touches of yellow gold of the bezel, crown, hour markers, hands, and, most importantly and striking, the Tudor shield logo at 12 o'clock. The warm gold patina throughout is simply stunning in person. ( No Koke, this is just copy paste from hodinkee to be fair, they had a better description as I could come up with)
