Collectors favorite #7: Cédric Aerts

This week we have a one on one session with a collector who truly became a friend through the love for watches. A man who can be found in the kitchen of Koxx or playing with watches with a beer on the side. Is it a cliché that a chef collects watches? Yes it is but he is still a friend so I am obligated to give him his moment to shine. I present to you the man, the myth, the legend (and the man who did not finish his last beer when we met):  Cédric Aerts.
Who are u?
Cédric @cedricaerts

What was your first watch?

My first watch I got when I became 12 years old. Small, blue bezel, quartz,.. I don’t know the name of the brand but at the time it was cool as hell.

What is your favorite watch in your collection?

By far my Rolex Datejust 116200. I wear it almost every day. Timeless white dial with a smooth bezel, roulette date and a super jubilee.

What is your all-time favorite aka holy grail watch?

A Patek Philippe Perpetual calendar retrograde date 5159r-001. My dad had a screensaver of this watch on his laptop for years and I fell in love within seconds.

Do you have a watch incoming or are you on the hunt for one?

I am always on the hunt for nice pieces, but at the moment I really want a Rolex day-date 1803 to join the collection. I’m not a vintage guy at all, but a plexi day-date is just something I want.

Also looking for a Zenith Defy. Love the sharp edges and the simplicity of the dial.

Maybe a IWC Mark XVIII le petit prince?
TBC

editor's note: The fact that he wants a 1803 is integrally my fault. I poked him a little too often with my own 1803 that I use to display straps. Editor out. Ps: 1803 paired with our suede strap.
Best watch related advice for any other collector?

Buy what you like, be patient and be proud of what you have.
How did u get into watches?

When I was a bit younger, I went to a Patek AD with my dad, where he bought a 5711. The rest of the day we spent in a local café, drinking coffees and talking about watches. He told me about his passion for timepieces and since that day I started to appreciate the beauty of mechanical watches. However, he is a totally different collector then I am today :D .

Do you regret selling a particular watch?

A few months ago I sold my Rolex explorer II 16570, and I have regretted it ever since. I love the tool/sport Rolex watches, that’s why I replaced the 16570 this week with a Explorer I 214270.

Favorite strap in the Perpetualwatchlover collection?

The cognac racing strap!
